Fiordland is wild, remote and wonderfully unpredictable. Rain, wind, sunshine, waterfalls, mountains and wildlife can all make an appearance - sometimes all in the same day. It's also a place where you can genuinely get away from it all. Out here, there are no traffic jams, no crowds and very few people. Just a whole lot of wilderness. Combine that with industry professionals, seasoned clinicians, rescue professionals, and educators to deliver high-impact training for medical and outdoor professionals who aren’t afraid to push beyond the ordinary, and you have yourself a powerhouse learning experience.
And that's exactly what makes it such a great place to learn wilderness medicine.

Come and spend five days in one of the most remote and spectacular corners of New Zealand while you get stuck into some seriously good wilderness medicine. And if your partner isn't a medical professional? No problem. Bring them along. While you're working through the course, they'll have plenty of opportunity to explore, relax and soak up Fiordland too.
Because let's be honest - it's a pretty good place to tag along for a week.
We'll spend five days in Tamatea / Dusky Sound aboard the 27m expedition vessel M.V. Flightless, operated by Pure Salt. You'll work through our Wilderness Rescue Medicine program, with a particular focus on the sorts of medical challenges you may encounter in a remote environment, with a marine twist.
There'll be plenty of practical learning, real-world scenarios and plenty of opportunity to get outside and explore the environment you're learning to work in.
And when you're not training, you'll be "living" aboard the vessel, travelling through one of Fiordland's most remote corners - watching the landscape change around you, listening to the waterfalls and rainforest, and hopefully spotting some of the local wildlife along the way.
Fiordland can be wet. It can be windy. It can also be completely magical.
That's part of the deal.
It's a place that reminds you pretty quickly that you're a visitor here - and that's where the idea of Kaitiakitanga, or guardianship of the land, really comes into its own.

Whilst this course provides wilderness and remote medical care, do not fret! We are aware that being within this awe inspiring environment may be a once in a lifetime opportunity. RescueMED alongside PureSalt, aim to provide attendees the opportunity to both immerse themselves into their surroundings and the recreational activities on offer, whilst also successfully gaining the learnings that are expected when attending Wilderness Rescue Medicine courses.

Wilderness Rescue Medicine courses are eligible for ACRRM & RACGP Rural Procedural Grants Programmes.
Procedural GP's can receive $2000 per day, for up to 10 days of training per financial year, and GP's providing hospital based emergency services can receive up to three days of eligible training per financial year.
